Can early-reading indicators be applied to student reading ability?
Early-reading indicators do not describe any characteristics of the students. Early-reading indicators only describe the characteristics of the text. Educators can use the information about the text to help them select reading material that is appropriate for students with specific reading needs. For example, a text with low decoding demands/low decoding indicator (i.e. many easy-to-decode words) could be selected for a student who needs practice reading easily decoded words.
