Lexile Levels

Helen Stewart Nov 07, 2016 12:36PM EST

Our district will not be purchasing the Star Reader assessment next year that accompanies Accelerated Reader. I have always matched levels from the assessment to the children's book selection. Therefore, all of the books in my library are labeled with AR grade levels. Our students will be using Easycbm as the benchmark assessment. I understand Lexile levels are given through Easycbm. How will I know how to convert the book labels? Will there be a conversion chart? Renaissance Learning said I should ask your company this question.
Thank you!

Hello Helen,

Thank you for your interest in the Lexile® Framework for Reading!

Because Lexile text measures and ATOS levels are based on slightly different variables, there is no direct correspondence between a Lexile text measure and an ATOS level. For this reason, MetaMetrics has not developed a chart to convert between the two measures. We find that any given ATOS level includes books that have a range of Lexile measures.

However, a few years ago Renaissance Learning and MetaMetrics conducted a study to link Lexile text measures and ATOS measures as well as Lexile reader measures and STAR Reading scores. During the 2014-15 school year, Lexile measures were added to Accelerated Reader. For more information concerning Lexile measures and ATOS, STAR Reading, AR BookFinder, or Accelerated Reader, please review the Renaissance Learning Lexile® Measures FAQ.

You may also wish to consider downloading the Lexile Titles Database™ so you can add Lexile measures to your library catalog. Educational organizations and school systems can license the database for free. For more information please visit Lexile.com/titles/download/english/.

Thanks again and please let us know if you have any further questions.

Best,
Dave
