My school recently adopted i-Ready. After the Diagnostic test, it provides me with a Lexile Performance. At the bottom, it says it's powered by MetaMetrics. I'm wondering about the reliability and accuracy of the scores given.
We also take the Scholastic Reading Inventory and get a generated Lexile measure for each student. I'm just curious to the more accurate of the two. I have a student who has measured BR on all of the SRI tests given but has measured in the 200s after the second i-Ready Diagnostic test. I know these numbers aren't the end all, be all to reading but am curious for a couple of other reasons.
Thank you for your interest in The Lexile® Framework for Reading!
Both products are linked with The Lexile® Framework for Reading so the accuracy and reliability of the measure given will be the same. However, it is likely that each time a student is given an assessment, regardless of similarities in the metrics associated, that a different measure will be produced. Please click on the following links for two research papers that will help describe this in more detail. “Why Do Scores Change?” and “Managing Multiple Measures”.
Thanks again and please let us know if you have any further questions.
